The Speaker Will Not Power On/Charge
The speaker shows no signs of turning on or responding.
The Device Is Not Powered On
Press the power button in the middle of the device. Make sure that the back light behind the power button turns on to check if the device is on or off. If the light is on, the speaker is on. If the light is off, the speaker is off.
The Device Is Not Charged
Plug in your charger to the speaker’s USB-C port to charge the device. Make sure the charging light on the base of the device is blinking. If the light doesn’t blink, you may need to replace the battery. See our battery replacement guide.
The Charging Port Is Broken
Check to see if your USB-C port charging wire works with other devices. If the charging wire works then you may need to replace the port bay. See our port bay replacement guide.
The Power Button Is Broken
Plug in your charger to the speaker’s USB-C port to charge the device. Make sure the charging light on the base of the device is blinking. If it is fully charged and still not turning on, the power button may be worn out or broken. See our button replacement guide.
The Battery Is Faulty
Plug in your charger to the speaker’s USB-C port to charge the device. Make sure the charging light on the base of the device is blinking. If the light does not blink you may need to replace the battery. See our battery replacement guide.
The Speaker Has Low Sound Quality/Makes a Crackling Noise
The sound coming from the speaker is not clear.
The Speakers Are Blown Out
If your audio is crackling, your speakers may have been blown out. See our speaker replacement guide.
The Bass Radiators May Be Loose or Broken
The bass radiators at either end of the speaker increases sound quality. If one or both bass radiators are cracked or broken, you may need to replace the bass radiator. See our bass radiator replacement guide.
The Speaker Has Water Damage
Your speaker is waterproof, but if it is cracked or has a hole it may be susceptible to water damage. If you suspect water damage, then submerge speaker in rice for 1-3 days.
The Aux Connection Won’t Play Any Sound
The speaker will not connect via Aux cord to a device.
The Aux Cord Is Broken
Check to see if your Aux cord works with other devices. If the Aux cord does not work, you may need to purchase a new cord.
The Aux Port Is Broken
Check to see if your Aux cord works with other devices. If the Aux cord does work, there may be an issue with the Aux Port. See our port bay replacement guide.
The Device Won’t Connect to Other Devices Via Bluetooth Properly
The speaker will not connect wirelessly to your device.
The Speaker Is Not Powered On
If you’re not able to find the speaker under your Bluetooth menu, the speaker may not be powered on. Press the power button on the top of the device, and make sure the back light behind it turns on to ensure the device is on.
The Speaker Is Not in Bluetooth Pairing Mode
If the device does not show up under your Bluetooth menu, the speaker may not be in pairing mode. Press the Bluetooth button on the top of the device next to the power button and ensure it is blinking. Then check your Bluetooth menu again for the device and select it.
The Speaker May Be Connected to a Different Device
If the speaker is connected to another device it may not allow the desired device to be paired. Locate the device that is currently connected and disconnect it from the speaker, then continue with the pairing process.
The Bluetooth Chip May Be Faulty
The Bluetooth chip on the motherboard may not be working properly if the speaker does not want to pair with any devices. See our motherboard replacement guide.
The Buttons Are Not Operating/Responding Properly
The buttons are not responding when pressed.
The Buttons May Be Worn Down or Blocked By Debris
If one or more of the buttons is not functioning the button may have been worn down from regular use or debris may have worked its way under the rubber membrane. See our button replacement guide.

Jbl started having severe noise distortion and all of a sudden just stopped playing or making sounds at all. No power up or power down sound even though it seems to be connected to my phone. It is fully charged and brand new. Any advice?

Did you fix your problem? I just bought mine and it just crapped out.. bought like 3-4 days ago.. won’t do the power up noise or power down.. I’m connected but no sound is coming out.. very frustrating!!!!

Have you tried using the official JBL type c cable and pressing and holding the power button for at least 10 seconds? If you have, and still haven't gotten to work try different outlet and wall adapter combinations until you get it to work.

Same problem with mine, though no noise distortion before it fell silent suddenly. It was playing normally, then suddenly nothing. No power up or power down sounds, no connect sounds though it is connecting. Nothing. Pretty much still new. What’s the problem here?

If it’s a new JBL(4), don’t open the device; that voids the warranty, but if you call JBL customer service, they should be able to help, especially if it’s still under warranty, and if it’s still new it should be.

Try putting it in the some rice. If push comes to shove, buy a new one. Water damage is not covered by warranty for whatever reason.

Just got a replacement from Harman today. Used it awhile, shut it off, used it with an aux cord, noticed the charge lights kept turning on and off randomly, now the unit will not power on. It's fully charged, fresh from the factory.

Over last 3 months I've had 6,I repeat 6 charge 4s just stop working! They are just dead! No charge lights when plugged in,no response from on/off button! I've called JBL at least 5 times and either they are no help because they don't listen to what your problem is. Keep telling me to reset device but you can't reset if won't &&^&^$^ turn on! Or they leave you on indefinite hold. This is last JBL product i will ever buy. I've got a total of 20 flip 4s and 10 charge 4s. Was trying to get the full 100 using the JBL connect but these are way too expensive to buy if just gonna stop working. Never been so disappointed in a product in my life.

I just got a jbl charge 4 from a friend and it is having issues with bluetooth connection. So it will stay connected for a little while and be perfectly fine then out of nowhere it will disconnect. When I does this I will reconnect it , it connects, I push play and bam it disconnects again. Again I reconnect it and try turning it down and push play and it plays for a little bit. It seems to be happening only when the sound hits. If I plug it in to charge and then connect and play it does fine .

Im having an issue with my JBL charge 4. I’ve had it pugged in for about 24hrs now and it wont charge. The light on the bottom is on and blinking but i try to turn it on and it’ll connect and everything but it WILL NOT stay on for more than a few seconds.

How to put the minimum volume to an even more minimum. The lowest possible sound is still very hard/loud in bedroom. Is there an app with equalizer or other solutions? (My combination: Samsung s10 + Spotify + JBL Charge 4)

You can try disabling Bluetooth absolute volume to decrease the volume .
1. Open settings
2. Scroll down until you see about phone
3. Tap software information
4. Tap on build number rapidly seven times
5. Enter your screen lock if you have one set up
6. Tap the back arrow at the bottom of your screen two times
7. If there is a search option in settings search Bluetooth Absolute Volume if there is not, Tap developer options
8. Scroll until you see a setting labeled “Bluetooth absolute volume” without quotation marks.
9. Close all your apps, restart your device and reconnect to the speaker.
10. You can now use the volume keys on the speaker to adjust the volume to your preferred listening level.

I bought a charge 4 today after trying the demo one in Good Guys shop. There it paired to the demo model immediately. The one I bought will not pair although I can see it on my iPhone but every time I try to pair it, with pressing the Bluetooth button on the device and asking the iPhone to connect - it doesn’t.
Take it back for replacement?

Try restarting your iPhone, and king sure your device is up to date. If that doesn't work, try resetting the speaker by following these steps :
1. Start by turning the device on if it is not already on.
2. Press and hold Bluetooth and Volume Up until the device turns off.
3. Power on the speaker again.

JBL speakers do not support playing from USB devices. The USB port is for charging a device only. It provides power out only.

My indicator lights are out of wack and the only button that works is the power button. I cannot connect new devices raise nor lower volume. Factory reset not possible because buttons don't respond.

My JBL Charge 4 stopped working for no reasons, it doesn’t respond to any buttons and when I decide to charge it, it turns on for 3seconds and then suddenly stop working again. When it turns on for these 3seconds, I noticed that the LEDs showing the charging level do not light. Anyone knows how to fix it?

Hi, bought it in MAR 2020, use twice indoor less than 2 hours each time… Tried to use it the third time, now can only connect at High volume, when lower the volume, it just mute itself. The start-up or shut down does not have the “Dung” sound anymore too. Tired reset to factory default, does not help. Still the same, only at 80% volume and above than there is sound. Please advise

Hey i got strange one, hope there are people with ideas here.
When charging “charge 4” on my Desktop, lights wont turn on.
The strange thing is that i can turn on the and connect to the bluetooth.
Spotify even allows to play music no sound from speaker tough.
Cant seem to get it to reset, because i cant get it to turn on.
The power button clicks so i expect its ok.

When I plug my JBL charge 4 in The light ring around the power and Bluetooth buttons comes on and stays on until I unplug it at which point it shuts off and the power button if pushed turns the light on for two seconds really just enough to let you see that it responded to the command but nothing else happens it shuts right back off the power button doesn’t illuminate it doesn’t play it’s all guitar tone it doesn’t make its power up sound and it was working fine yesterday.

Happened to me, too. Wouldn’t power down or make any sound. Just hold the power button for 10 or more seconds and it will revert back to normal.

Hi, I recently bought a new rechargeable battery 4/11/2021 for my JBL charge 4 and replaced the original battery with a new battery I bought from you guys. I drained the battery first before charging it fully because that’s what the instructions recommended. Unfortunately, the new battery is not working anymore. I was happy until the new battery stopped working. It was pretty disappointing

My JBL go water damage, and ended up working again a week later but then it started turning on and off constantly but the speaker was making noise, then it stopping making the power up sound and would only turn the power light on for a second. But now it’s charging and turning on and connecting, basically everything it needs to. But it doesn’t do power up audio or play any audio weather it’s from the aux or Bluetooth. It is getting power to the speaker though because when you press connect plus it makes a noise like a suddle pop but almost impossible to hear even with your ear next to it but this goes for all the buttons besides pause and play due to that having nothing to do with the speakers function or volume. I need to find out what’s wrong so I can fix it.

Same. I’ve owned my JBL Charge 4 for 2 years, worked flawlessly until about 6mos ago. A couple things: 1) When the speaker cuts out, then the battery seems to be on a constant drain until its completely used up or charged bach up. 2) If I can get the speaker to reset, the start up chime works, it will connect to my phone, and play music for while… It seems high volume, or possibly strong frequency response causes the speaker to cut out, almost as if it’s reached an output limit of some kind. Sounds with strong bass have this affect, or if I turn the volume up too high. Songs that cause the cut out work at lower volume setting, then cuts out as I turn up the volume beyond 50%, sometimes. Other songs I have been able to volume up over 80% before sound cuts out. The speaker will stay connected to my phone via bluetooth after speaker cut out. Not a solution, but more details to help the helpers resolve.

I have a few JBL Charge 4’s and none have any issues… except for my newest charge 4, which is about to be 1 year old. Bought it new, and has always been slow, and struggled to do simple things like paring without taking ages. It is up to date with the JBL App updates, and now won’t turn on at all, displaying a red and white dot on the bottom while charging, I’ve tried all of the trouble shooting methods I just read on this website, and the wire and cube I use to charge it are also from JBL and are 100% functional.

My JBL charge 4 will not power on when not plugged in to its charger. I replaced the battery and it indicates fully charged per the led lights , but with the speaker not plugged into its charge adapter, the power light stays off. With the speaker plugged in, the power on light is illuminated, but the bluetooth function does not connect to my iphone; however, the characteristic bass guitar sounds off when pressing the power button. I did a factory reset but got no improvement. What do you think might be the problem?

Friend asked me to take a look at her Charge 4 because it only powers on when plugged into a charger.
I tested everything and all the buttons seem to work, when it is powered on and I press the power button to turn it off, it stays off for a few seconds and then powers back on by itself.
When forcing power off by holding the power button, it does stay off, but then it won't turn back on without plugging it in.
Tried everything from reset to turning the button lock on/off, but no luck.
Does anyone know about what's the problem or is this thread dead? I was thinking of opening the speaker up and taking a look of the insides, but if it's a software bug that wouldn't help.
