De Surface Pro 2 werd uitgebracht in oktober 2013 en de productie werd gestaakt in juli 2014. De Surface Pro 2 dient zowel als laptop als tablet. De Surface Pro 2 is doorgaans verkrijgbaar in: blauw, roze, paars of zwart. De Surface Pro 2 werkt ook op Windows 8.1 of Windows 10. In tegenstelling tot de Surface Pro heeft de Surface Pro 2 een standaard met twee standen. De Surface Pro 2 heeft meer SSD-geheugenopties dan de Surface Pro, aangezien de Surface Pro 2 verkrijgbaar is in: 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB en 512 GB. De Surface Pro 2 beschikt bovendien over een vierde generatie Intel-Core i5-4200u-processor met Intel-HD 4400 Graphics.
In februari 2016 moest Microsoft de stroomadapters van de Surface Pro 2 terugroepen omdat ze vlam konden vatten of een elektrische schok konden veroorzaken.
