The camera will not turn on

It seems that you have tried everything, but your camera still will not turn on.

The battery is drained or has gone bad

If your camera has not been used in awhile, it is very possible that your batteries need to be replaced. If the batteries are rechargeable, try charging them. If the camera still does not turn on, try replacing the batteries with brand new ones.

The motherboard has gone bad

If the camera still does not turn on once you have tried recharging the batteries and/or replacing the batteries with brand new ones, your camera most likely has a bad motherboard. Though repairing the motherboard sounds difficult, it is a simple repair that you can do by following our step-by-step guide.

The camera does not remain charged long enough to take a picture or video

When taking a picture or video, the camera suddenly turns off because it will not hold a charge.

The battery is drained or has gone bad

If your battery is drained or has gone bad, it needs replacement. If the batteries are rechargeable, try charging them. If the camera continues to shut off before you can take a picture or video, try replacing the batteries with brand new ones.

The motherboard has gone bad

If the camera still continues to shut off before you can snap a picture or video once you have tried recharging the batteries and/or replacing them, your camera cannot hold a charge. It most likely has a bad motherboard. Replacing a broken motherboard can be solved by following our step-by-step guide.

The LCD screen is black

The pictures and videos you are shooting cannot be seen because your LCD screen has gone black.

The LCD screen has been cracked

The camera dropped and the screen cracked. Often, the screen will still work and it is just difficult to see past the cracked appearance; however the drop that caused the cracks could also be causing the screen to black out. In this case, the screen needs to be replaced with a new screen.

The battery is drained or has gone bad

Your batteries need to be replaced. If the batteries are rechargeable, try charging them. If the camera continues to have a black, non-functioning screen, try replacing the batteries with brand new ones.

The camera has experienced total system failure

Total system failure has occurred with your camera. If your camera has not been dropped and you have tried replacing the batteries, it is likely that it has a bad motherboard. Though replacing the motherboard sounds difficult, it is a simple repair that you can do by following our step-by-by guide.

The pictures appear blurry

No matter how well you focus or how well you line up the shot, the pictures will not come out clear.

The outer lens is dirty

The lens is dirty and is affecting the quality of your pictures. The cause could be that over the life of the camera, a layer of dirt or other debris could have accumulated on the outer lens. No need to worry. Simply take a soft, slightly damp cloth and gently rub on the exterior of the lens.

The aperture unit has accumulated dust

Residue may have built up on the inner lenses inside the camera's aperture unit. You will need to install a new one by following our instructions.

The motherboard cannot determine what is focused

The motherboard is broken and cannot determine what is focused. If you have tried cleaning the lens and your pictures are still blurry, the motherboard may not be able to determine what is and is not a clear photo. If this is the case, you will need to replace the motherboard.

The buttons are sticky

You are trying to press the buttons on your camera to take a picture and zoom; however, the buttons will not depress.

The button is jammed

Dust, dirt, or other particulate matter has become lodged in the button enclosure and the button is no longer responsive. The button needs to be replaced.

The LCD screen has gone black. I can read the menu but I can't see anything from the lens on the screen. Can anyone shed some light on my situation?

The LCD screen has gone black. I can see the menu but I can't see anything else. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I did the reset option twice but nothing works.

No. I'm having the same problem with my Sony Cyber-shot D.SC.-HX1. I haven't dropped my camera. I haven't used it in a year because I was using my phone. I re-ordered new batteries and even though I see saved photos in the view, I cannot see anything but black when trying to take a photo. The camera does take photo's, but they are all black. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
