Duane, It sounds like you need an original camera flex cable to fix issue. I say that because your issue seems to be related to my question on testing 7/7+ screens BEFORE installing them. I usually just connect the Dig & LCD cables to test screen. However, on my 1st 7+ screen change I noticed right away that the phone was stuck on the Apple logo when trying to test it. I went ahead and finished the screen replacement & connected all the cables, including the camera flex...and it worked fine. So it appears that the camera flex has to be connected to even test the screen before replacement.

Hello, There is likely one of two possible causes for what your describing: either a small tear in the camera flex cable or a grounding issue with new screen. With the screen & camera working while just connected with cables, the camera cable is not bent much, so a small tear may still make a connection. The camera cable is bent backwards with screen installed, so a small tear may separate. Use a magnifying glass to closely inspect the camera cable. To test for a grounding issue with new screen, test the camera on the "original" cracked screen to see if it works when installed.

iTunes error 53 is MOSToften the result of a screen change that has gone bad. Here are the common issues that cause error 53: - Screen is replaced with a NEW Home button installed. You MUST!!! install the original Home button...period...it does not matter what else you try, you'll get error 53 every time. - The metal shield on the back of screen assembly I call the "screen backplate". The flex ribbon that attaches to the screen backplate that runs from the top to bottom, I call the "Home button flex ribbon". This flex ribbon is most often damaged at the bottom where the Home button connects to it. The bottom of the Home button flex ribbon is attached to screen with adhesive, & can be easily torn. Be very careful removing it. If flex ribbon is damaged...it will cause error 53, but can be fixed by replacing flex ribbon. - The Home button flex ribbon connector, at bottom of flex ribbon is NOT properly seated at bottom of new screen when installed. Hi Patrick, I see from your original post...you changed your display. So more than likely when you removed/installed the connectors at the top of board...you probably knocked a little chip off of it. To test chip above audio jack connector, just solder across (bridge) both connections. If your camera works, just leave it that way. It will work fine.

The after market casings will work. You just have to shim up the Mute, Volume, & Power buttons. Black electrical tape works great.

1st I would just try to charge the battery thru wall outlet. Give it a couple of hours. Sometimes new batteries need to be charged.

It might be the dock connector assembly in bottom of phone. The Home button, when pressed, makes contact with contact points on top of dock connector. Your USB cable plugs into dock connector port. Your speaker is also housed in it as well. It would probably be around $10.00 to replace.

Heating up while charging is a common problem associated with a bad PMIC (Power Management IC) chip on logic board. I would try a new battery...just in case, before messing with board.

I specifically buy 3gs iphones with DIM screens (no backlite) to repair. In my opinion, here are the most common causes: 1. Corrosion at #1 LCD connector on board and/or LCD 2. Bad LCD 3. 6R8 coil & chip/curcuit problem The quickest test of backlite curcuit is: Power on phone, remove screen, and do lite test at pin 3 of #1 LCD connector on board. If there is power...backlite curcuit is probably not broken. If not, troubleshoot backlite curcuit.

A perfect substitute for the copper contact on logic board is...the copper contact on dock connector antenna. You should be able to use the one from your old casing. They look almost identical. Update: The correct fix for antenna issue is to replace the dock connector assembly. Simply transfer your old one to new casing. Trust me...you signal strength will return. The antenna signal comes from the flex strip that sticks to the bottom of the dock connector...which has a copper contact that makes contact with metal frame when installed. Most "After-Market" dock connector assemblies have POOR antenna flex strips. I primarily repair & sell 3gs iPhones.
