According to EveryMac.com, the memory in both the i7 and i5 processor versions of the 2015 Macbook Air cannot be upgraded post-purchase, and according to Everymac.com, could be upgraded to 8gb maximum. The “procedure” of upgrading at time of purchase is simply having Apple either go to the back room and get you a computer with more RAM, or replace the logic board. But I’m guessing you were asking about a component level procedure like the one discussed by IBoff Mat on his Facebook or Youtube channel. IBoff Mat (in Malaysia) says he has successfully upgraded these machines to 16 gb. This teardown document here on iFixit only talks about a 4gb machine, but has part numbers on it. I’m in the process of looking for other people’s videos or documentation on this myself. Sorry I don’t have more information yet, but when I do, I’ll post it here.
Update - HP's service manual for their computers has disappeared, but they have a lot more of their own service videos on their YouTube channel. In this particular case, they demonstrate in this video using a wooden dowel how to pop they keyboard loose like their manual describes. The audio is actually just the computer reading the steps from their manual. If any one can find the manual, please add it here.
I had some 2mm two sided 3M 300LSE repair tape left from a previous cell phone repair Perfect for re-affixing the speaker cable to the inside of the case.
Great guide. Thanks for the detail; the pictures; the warnings. I used the awesome iFixit toolkit with the 24 small compartments in the lid, and scribbled out a little graph with the step numbers each of the screws came out of. No mistakes!
Thanks for this; I had to tear mine down for a good cleaning. Couldn’t have done it without my favourite website: ifixit.com! Who would have thought to turn something clockwise to loosen!
