Commentaar Gids
After reading the comments I was not looking forward to this step on re-assembly. I agree that the pictures and the instruction to “slide” the bracket into place may be worrisome. But I was able to orient the bracket directly over where it was supposed to go. Then inserted the 2 clips (top) in first and easily and gently snapped the bottom clip into place. Probably spent less than a minute on this part.
Completed with no issues and everything worked afterwards. I had been procrastinating doing the 5s but I finally sat down and went through using this guide. The difficulty listed is spot on… moderate. It took a lot of patience and concentration but now that I’ve done is once I’m pretty sure I could do it again in about 20 minutes.
Used 3 spudgers and a suction cup method. The front is a tight fit (both separating it and putting it back together). But just be patient, once you get one tool in between the front and the case it’s pretty easy from there (just go slow).
There's a little rubber piece that you can see in the Step 17 & Step 21 pictures just above the yellow sticker. It fits over the edge of the board where the two ribbon cables from the display/digitizer come up through the board (Step 36). It's there to make sure the ribbon cables don't rub against the sharp edge of the board. This piece loves to fall out when pulling the logic board off. Make sure to put it back in when routing the cables in Step 36, thin edge on the bottom, thicker edge on the top.
I had an iPhone 4 CDMA (Verizon), the bottom of the screen (where you swipe to unlock) would no longer respond to touch. Ordered new screen (screen and digitizer are attached to each other), and followed the guide. I would suggest looking at the sub-pictures for each step (especially 36), they include helpful and important info.
I left the following comment on Step 17 about an "extra" rubber piece that fell out during reassembly:

Ordered a new battery from iFixit for my poor, abused and aging 3GS (hand-me-down to my kids who use it as an iPod). The original battery was old, not holding a charge, and was expanding, pushing the case open. I've taken apart Apple laptops before, this was my first shot at an i-device. It helped me to watch the video, go over the whole guide first, and make sure I had a plan for screw organization prior to beginning. Took less than an hour, everything went as described in the guide, nothing really I wasn't prepared for. New battery works great! Thanks iFixit for the parts and the help.
Thanks for the guide. I had to use this a few years back to replace a hard drive. It was a challenge, took a couple hours, but go slow and steady and be patien. The guide was perfect. I would suggest printing the screw guide, sticking double sided tape over the screw diagrams, and placing your screws on there as you disassemble. This make reassembly a ton easier. Trickiest part for me was actually removing the lower case. Don't forget step 16 and go slowly.
