Turn on the tv, runs for about 5 minutes, then shuts off with 4 red blinking lights. Tried hard reset/factory reset and the tv goes into reset mode, shows the Android logo, gets through setup, then shuts off. Tried to connect the BL_ERR to ground, but did not fix. Then replaced the power board with new board, still no fix. What next?

The service manual, shows that a 4 blink error code may be a tcon board problem.
(On p.3 it shows that this manual is also for your model TV)

The way to check if the manual is applicable to your TV is to see if the chassis number (GN4UR CHASSIS) matches.
There's also a few flowcharts in the manual that show what to check, for a 4 blink error on p.34 & p.36

I'm a little confused; In the manual you linked and in the XBR service manual, it says that 4 blinks is T-Con and 5 blinks is Power/Inverter.
On a reference site, those two are switched around.
I think I'll trust the manual in this case and say it's a T-Con issue.
So, is there some place on the icon board that I can check......voltage, resistance, etc.?
The service manual does not seem like the correct one. The boards footprint is not the same as my OLED tv
@dave2849 The first thing to check is for obvious damage (on both sides). Blown components, burn-/scorch marks, etc.
The images you tried to post in comments doesn't work (you have to follow the guide I linked above).
@geirandersen I checked the power board and the main board, showing no obvious issues......no bulging caps, no dark (arching) marks on either board.

Hi All,
So, I received the new TCON board and installed it into the XBR-55A8F tv and it started up with a GREEN and AMBER light, with the Android music in the background......... no picture. Went to the SONY help website and noticed that when new TCON board is installed the firmware is to be reloaded. So, I downloaded the firmware ".pkg" for my tv. Copied it to a flash drive, as SONY recommended, then inserted the flash drive into the USB port. The tv began with a WHITE blinking light (telling me that the tv was downloading the firmware for the tv). Then it rebooted and instantly, 4 RED lights began blinking again. So, replaced the POWER board and the TCON board, and back to square one. Any suggestions? Please advise, as I am now ready to call the tv repair techs to see what the problem is and the cost to fix. Thanks

Ok, now I placed a fan behind the TV, focused on the MAIN board. Running cool air. TV has been running for about 4 1/2 hours now without issue. So, it must be a heat problem. But, since the fan is pushing air to the MAIN board, it is also hitting the TCON board, so I believe it is a heat problem. Since I replaced the POWER and TCON boards, it could be a heat problem on the MAIN board (there are 2 large heat sinks on the MAIN board).
Sorry for no update. Been away for a while. So now, replaced Power Board and TCON Board. No change. So, I figured that it was not these 2 boards and put the original boards back into the tv. Rebooted and now it is up and running.......for 3 hours last night, until I powered it down. The only thing, it blinks with a green/white light, where it used to blink 4 reds. I think that I need to update the firmware, so going to download the latest firmware from SONY and see what happens.
@dave2849 just out of curiosity. Have you tried to see if the TV "runs" with local inputs only? Lets say just a DVD/BR player or even a game console? What happens when you disconnect it from your network?
Right now, I downloaded the new firmware, and it has been running NETFLIX (via home WIFI) for the past hour with no issues. I only have a SONY DVR (that I hardly use) that I will hook up to it after it runs for a few hours. I will check it and see if it works. I don't really want to put on the back cover yet. Still not sure if it was a heat problem. Maybe I will keep the back cover off.

Since the TV runs for a bit b4 it turns off, I think you can eliminate BLOWN components. It is more likely and overheating problem causing a shutdown. Without burning yourself, see if you can find a somewhat HOT part. Power devices on a TCON board are typical failure points. The problem is finding it since it works for a while. You can use a DVM and measure base to emitter/collector or gate to drain/source on the power devices. Any shorted devices would probably cause an immediate shutdown so look for open devices which would cause the other devices to run hotter. Otherwise, it is a crap shoot - and you just replace the TCON and hope that is it.

I just ordered a new TCON board. I figured that $75 for a long shot is probably worth it. No clue how much a TV repair shop would cost. Fingers crossed, I will install when I get it. I the meantime, I will take the old TCON board out and take a couple pics for you all to see........... Thanks, so far, for all the support. Dave
Just posted the front/back images of the TCON board.
I could not find any "hot spot" on the TCON board. Maybe a bad component. I do NOT have the equipment (other than a DVM) to check out these boards.
there appears to be a couple of fuses on the bottom left. Curious if those are blown. If so, there may be another issue that blew them.
Fuses are good.
Same problem with xbr65x950g it turns on and will run until something HD is played.
3 months past warranty. Either way I will never be buying Sony again.

I am a best buy repair technician. 4 blinking lights on any sony tv indicate either a bad Tcon OR bad panel. At that point you might as well get a new tv ✌️

Hi @dave2849,
On a Sony, the 4 blinking red lights indicate an error with the backlight inverter or power board. Have you taken the back off the TV yet? If not, could you do so, and remove the power board (be careful as there are capacitors there that store High Voltage!) and take high resolution pictures of both sides? Make sure it's as nice and in focus as you can get it.
Then, update your original question with those pictures, following this guide.

@dave2849 See the answer from @jayeff below; There is conflicting information online about the blink and what they signify, but the manual is from Sony, so I'd trust that more so.
