Just managed to kill a CPU and main board.
Honestly, this is the worst design possible.
CPU moved during installation (because there was nothing to hold it in place) and ended up bending loads of pins on the board socket.
The CPU also has a nice bend on one corner, and I have a f**€in paperweight.
What about WD-40? in a spray can!
That will teach me not to read ahead!!
I'm replacing the HDD with an SSD - not sure if I should use the HDD SATA-0 channel or the SSD SATA-1 channel.
The GPU thermal sensor is connected to the LCD TEMP connector on the main board.
If you are replacing the bezel at the same time - don't forget to check that the clear film has been removed from the webcam lens. A foggy image is not reassuring when testing the reassembled computer.
It's a good idea to disconnect the Battery before removing any components. This is the pull tab to the left of the NAND SSD and above the battery
However, an excellent guide - thank you for taking the time to compile it.
An interesting discovery - the keyboards for the UK and US versions are slightly different, and annoyingly don't fit.
In order to access the two screws near the docking port, you need to remove the docking port cover. This is released by removing the two screws on the rear edge of the case and then lifting the part clear - assuming you have removed all the other screws.
The screws on the board are hidden by the two-round caps, on either side of the docking port.
