installed new hard drive (From fixit( order #1232182) no installation disk supplied. How do I format the "new" hard drive so I can down load the "clone" of the original drive?

Which Mac do you own? Installation methods vary greatly according to which model you. Harrys method will work on newer laptop models but not older ones or desktops.
Was the old drive still running? Do you have another Mac and do both have firewire ports? We can not tell from your order number what drive you ordered.
