Background and Identification

Google started producing the Pixel Buds in 2017, less than a year after the release of the first AirPods. The first iteration consisted of two earbuds connected by a fabric-covered cable, preventing them from being considered "true-wireless." Only the left bud contained a battery, which was able to power both speakers through the cable. The cord actually exited the earbud upwards, wrapping inside the fold of the wearers ear and winding back through a loop in the bud. This was perhaps a precursor to the fins and wings seen on newer wireless earbuds to help with stability and fit.

From the second generation on, Pixel Buds followed the rest of the industry with two separate earpieces.

Pixel Buds can be identified by the Google "G" logo inscribed onto the outside of the earpieces.
