Background
The ROG Ally X is a handheld, portable gaming console made by ASUS. It’s a competitor to the Valve Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch Lite, AYA Neo, and OneXPlayer. Announced at Computex 2024 and launched in July of the same year, it's the successor to the original ROG Ally from 2023, ASUS's first entry into the segment.
The Ally X keeps the same 7-inch display bookended by two non-removable controllers with thumbsticks, triggers, bumpers, grip buttons, and menu buttons—plus the standard ABXY and D-pad. The Ally X comes standard with tech closer to the higher-end configuration of the first Ally, namely an updated Z1 Extreme, with more and faster RAM (24 GB of LPDDR5X vs 16 GB of LPDDR5), more standard storage (1 TB up from 512 GB), and a larger, more common SSD format (2280 M.2 vs 2230 M.2). The Ally X also features a battery that's doubled in size (80 Wh vs 40 Wh), which contributes to it being slightly larger and heavier.
Available in black, the 1 TB ROG Ally X costs $799.
Identification
The ASUS ROG Ally X can be identified by the model number RC72LA. Two sub-models can be identified by the model numbers RC72LA-ALLYX.Z1X and RC72LA-ALLYX.Z1X2TB.
