Background and Identification
The Apple Smartwatch line includes a multitude of different watch options and is fierce competition to other giants of the smartwatch industry, like Fitbit and Garmin. A significant difference between the Apple Watch and alternate options is the refined compatibility of the Apple Watch with the iPhone and the ability to make phone calls directly from the watch.
First released on April 24th, 2015, the 1st generation Apple Watch provided users with time visibility, fitness and health tracking capabilities, Apple app interaction, and more. Since 2015, the Apple watch has been thinned out and elongated, fitting Apple’s signature sleek, modern look. The most recent Apple Watch, as of 2023, is the Series 9. Apple Watch models include the original model, Series 1–9, two generations of Apple Watch SE, and two generations of Apple Watch Ultra.
The Series 9 offers basic smartwatch features (time visibility, activity tracking, sleep tracking, etc.) and the features of previous Apple Watches (i.e. Apple app interaction, notification display, phone call capabilities). It also has an abundance of additional selling points, including an always-on OLED retina display, more advanced heart-rate monitoring technology, fall detection abilities, and more.
Apple Smartwatches all have a sleek display attached to a wristband. Apple Watches come in a variety of colors and have a seemingly endless amount of wristband options on the market.
The most often replaced Apple Smartwatch parts include the battery and screen.
