Scan lines and distorted lower screen

My lower Nintendo DS screen was blank, but the backlight was on and the touch panel works, so I replaced the display to no avail. I then tried turning the lower screen’s potentiometer to adjust the contrast and was able to get some display, but it’s only a partial display and some scan lines show up. I tried this with the replacement lower screen as well, but I got a checkered/plaid red/green line pattern.

Are the screens toast? Should I try replacing the pot?

Zoom-in on reverse side of board. Maybe C14 looks worse for wear, and there's some corrosion between C15/GSP1:

@dstevens17 this “lower screen’s potentiometer to adjust the contrast and was able to get some display,” sounds like a recap may be the right thing to do. Sure, you could also change the potentiometer but those do not often fail. after that re-evalaute and see what you got going on. Right now it’s all pretty much a guessing game.

@oldturkey03 thanks for the tip! Any idea which cap it might be? My guess is either C11 or C12, but I'm having a hard time finding a spec sheet for the DS.

@dstevens17 that is one of our biggest challenges. Schematics! or the lack thereof? Post a couple of good pictures of your board and lets's see if we can figure something pout. You will have to edit your QUESTION and follow this guide Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag

@oldturkey03 done! Note that the P5 ribbon cable socket clamp is partially broken, but it still holds the ribbon in place and the DS still boots.

@dstevens17 that board looks really good. I think for now you can postpone the recap. Let's see if we can find some schematics. VR1 VR2 trim-pots for the display ????

@oldturkey03 no luck finding a schema, so I've no idea which caps and resistors are relevant for the displays aside from the variable resistors -- what about them? Haven't messed with VR1 since the top display looks good, messed around with VR2 to get *something* to display on the lower screen, and haven't touched VR3 (and dunno what it does).
