May be wrong but from what I can tell it looks like a capacitor.

That's a capacitor (more specifically, a solid polymer or hybrid polymer capacitor) . Can you read any of the red writing on the capacitor?

No I can't seem to make out anything on the capacitor.

@phana0071 post some pictures of the motherboard and let's take a look at where it came off. If you can see if there are any numbers on the the motherboard so we can identify the board and hopefully find a schematic to assist you further. Definitely a capacitor.
