Unusual Trackpad Behavior and SATA LED out

I recently replaced the SATA cable, which solved the previous problem I'd been having (the macbook operating unusably slow and occasionally not finding an OS). Now, the SATA's LED seems to have gone out, and, every few minutes, I'm getting undesired clicks and laggy, uncontrolled movements, on the trackpad, for which clicking forcefully and repetitively in the corners seems to eventually solve.

Anyone seen this issue, before?

EDIT:

What LED are you speaking about? The white one on the front is the sleep indicator.

A laggy trackpad could be a bad trackpad or the system could be running in safe mode where the CPU is running at a slower clocking.

Both could be caused by a dying battery. Run this gem of an app: CoconutBattery to check your battery. paste a screenshot here for us to see. Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag

The LED I mean is the one that's connected to the SATA cable, which I just replaced. Perhaps the 3rd party seller is selling defective products.

I've edited to include the battery status, which appears fine.

There is no LED on the SATA cable its self. Here an image of the cable:

The topmost connector is for the drive (SATA) the smaller leg to the left is the lid sensor (Hall Effect transistor) and the other end connects to the logic board. Here's the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Hard Drive Cable Replacement and here is the needed part: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable

Are you sure you got the correct part?

This cable connects a SATA I, SATA II, or SATA III hard drive to the logic board. Afbeelding

Apologies for my lack of clarity. I'm new to repair.

I definitely bought the correct part, and mistakenly described the LED as belonging to the cable, itself, which is not the case.

I'm referring to the light that is immediately to the right of the sleep light indicator. Whichever light that is.

Sidenote: I'm considering resetting the SMC, if I can get my hands on a tri-wing screwdriver.

OK, that's the IR sensor so you could use the older IR based remote transmitter. It doesn't light up it only see's Infered light the transmitter sends out.

Sorry I got my sensors mixed up. The drive cable has the IR sensor not the Hall Effect Sensor.

Not sure why you need the tri-wing screwdriver your battery looks OK from CoconutBattery.

Don't you need to remove the battery to reset SMC?

No, all you need to do is pull the batteries connection or follow this: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

Well, I've done the SMC reset, and it seems that the trackpad issue hasn't occurred, again. I'm just wondering why the LED is out.
