iPod won't connect to computer/won't start up
Please bear with me, as I'm a little not all that tech savvy. I've had my iPod for quite a while, and for the most part, it worked well. About 18 months ago, it got into the habit of deciding I had no music. I fixed it by reformatting it, and then restoring it in iTunes. It happened a few more times, and I was always able to get it back and running.
The last time it happened, about a month ago, I was going on a long trip, so I left it at home. I got back, reformatted it, and then...nothing. Now my computer doesn't even recognize that it is plugged in.
I'm willing to poke around and try to fix it myself following the guidelines I've seen here, as I'm fairly handy, but I'm not actually sure what it is I need to fix.
When I turn it on, it starts to go to the apple logo, which is what it does when I reboot it as well. However, while the logo shows up, the screen doesn't get bright.
Can anyone help? I'd be eternally grateful!

Guys I tried this however ITunes didn't recognise the ipod at all instead it froze until I ejected it. ON windows explorer it showed the drive but when I tried to access it the cursor wheel just turned until the msg is not responding until I again ejected it.
So any other ideas to format the hard drive I can try.
It won't play and says no songs but 111Gb has been used
