Need to know what size tap for a standard hard drive screw

I bought a dozen 3.5" hard drive carriers for mounting 2.5" drives in. The holes are to small for standard screws and are punched instead of threaded. Theses holes are for the iMac pins not to hold the hard drive to the bracket. I need to get a screw tap to thread them. Anyone know what size a standard hard drive screw is or where to get what I need?

UPDATE

It's a T8, but what type and size threads?

You are talking about the Hard Drive Brackets to go in an iMac to replace the 3.5 with a 2.5? Not the Hard Drive screw itself but the one to hold the Drive in the Bracket correct?

@iceplow correct.

I'm not sure it makes a difference but what kind of Brackets do you have?

@mayer , Link may help, scroll to the M3 screw. Does list thread size.

Pardon if this seems too old to resurrect, but those are almost definitely #6-32 UNC screws, i.e. UTS #6 (0.1380 inches) and 32 TPI (Threads Per Inch). In order to tap screw holes this should be all you need.

In this case the screws have a T8 head fashioned to provide the hard drive with a set of studs when installed to hold it in place.

In addition to #6-32, Metric M3 Fine pitch screw is often used for mounting SSDs, optical media drives and various other things.

The typical length of case/hard drive screws is around 7/16”, but there is some variation for differing mounting brackets and shock reduction designs.
