Why wont my BLU Vivo XL charge?

Hello, my BLU vivo XL will not charge I have had it for just barely over 5 months and about 2-3 months ago I noticed that sometimes my phone wasn't wanting to charge when I would have it plugged up. I would have to maneuver it a lot in order to get it to start charging, and I assumed this was just an issues with the chargers. After my phone died today because it didn't want to charge I bought a third charger and it doesn't seem to be charging my phone either. Is this a typical problem with the Vivo XL? And what should I do?

Hi @ydafabro,

In the USA there is a 12 month manufacturer's warranty on the phone and a 6 month manufacturer's warranty on the battery in the phone.

It may just be that the battery has failed and will not charge. It could also be that the phone is faulty and is not charging the battery.

As your phone and battery are still within the warranty period, first verify that the warranty period is still valid by checking the date on the purchase receipt, then consult the warranty statement in the documentation that came with the phone as to what you have to do to make a claim for a warranty repair or replacement. If you cannot find the warranty statement here is a link to the Blu warranty statement provisions for the USA. Ensure that you either have the sales receipt for the phone or some other proof of purchase e.g. a credit card statement or something similar showing the date of the purchase etc. (make a photocopy if you have to send the receipt or other proof and you keep the original)

Since your bf bought it he will have to make the claim as his name or details will be on the receipt etc. http://bluproducts.com/images/US_Limited...

Hi,

You say that you had to manouevre the charger to make the phone start to charge.

It may be that you have either a faulty or loose charge port in the phone.

Try the following in case it is something simple that you can easily fix.

Do not open the phone as it will void your warranty.

Using a magnifying glass and a strong light, visually inspect the charge port (USB port) from the outside of the phone. Ensure that the 'pins' are all there (usually there are 5) and that they are all straight and parallel with each other. Also ensure that the port does not have any lint or dust trapped in it. If it has then try to remove it using a vacuum cleaner so as to not damage the pins as you might if you use a sharp implement. If you have too, gently use a wooden toothpick to remove any lint.

If the USB port looks OK and as you say that you have only had the phone for 5 months and that there is a 12 month manufacturer's warranty on the phone , I suggest that you verify the purchase date of the phone and then consult the warranty documentation that came with the phone as to what you have to do to make a claim for a warranty repair or replacement.

If you cannot find the documentation here is a link to the Blu warranty provisions for the USA, if that is where you are.

Be aware that if they find that for example the USB port has become dislodged from the systemboard they may reject your warranty claim on the basis that you caused the problem by using excessive force when inserting a USB cord or charger. I'm not saying that you did or that they will or they wont, it's just that you are aware of the warranty provisions and what they do and do not cover.

You say do not open the phone as it will void the warranty. But since this is an unlocked phone, how can you add a SIM card and an SD card without opening the phone?

door

The charge ports on these otherwise excellent devices are very flimsy. When new or recently repaired, You would do well to put a bit of superglue between the port and the bottom of the chassis to better support the port.

Tissue/pocket lint in the hole was my problem. Air / vacuum not enough. Needed to open and pick out with a pin. Lint gets stuck real good in there.

Mine is about five months old, has had the issue since month two. I have two batteries. On my third charging cord, because I have to position the cord super-oddly for it to charge, and this kills the cords.

I voided my warranty by taking it apart to see if the port was loose or damaged (it wasn't.)

Super-disappointed this phone is such a dud.

latoya rowe if your phone is only 17 days old it should still be covered by a warranty. Take it back to your point of purchase

This is a chronic problem with BLU phones and a specific problem with the Vivo XL. A temporary solution is with the charger plugged in and the battery cover off, pinch the phone screen and the back at the area above the USB port. You may have to pinch it hard and in slightly different places until you feel it vibrate and or the charging light comes on. If it goes back off, keep doing it until the light stays on. More than likely with this problem you will not get rapid charging any more and will take a day or more to charge. If you have no way to get warranty work, then purchase a new charging circuit board or take it to a shop. I have delt with BLU crap for too many years. Every one I have had lasted no more than 6 months before BLU's chronic problems kicked in. This is my last one and I would advise everyone to stop buying them as BLU has been aware of these problems for years and has refused to address them. Happy pinching.

Yes, it is! I have same issues! Had the Blu vivoXL for 1O months and suddenly it died, won't boot up. I thought it's the battery. So I bought a new battery . It was 60% charged. Then phone booted up. I thought the battery was getting charged. Then I forgot to plug the phone overnight, and then I tried to turn it on, won't turn on same issue as before. Stay away from any Blu products! Support sucks, and takes forever to answer. Then there's the issue of replacement parts. Even battery has to be shipped from China. As none carry it in USA!

My Blu Vivo xl 2 phone is 3 days old, battery died and it will not charge. Sounds like this is a known problem on this phone and Blu isn't addressing it. Think I will return it and go with a better brand.

I have same issues. I bought a new battery and it worked for awhile. Then battery is not getting charged again. I decided to buy huwaei phone instead. So far I am very happy with it. I'm staying away from any Blu phones from now on.

Update (08/19/2017)

I just found a way to charge battery. Yes it's the faulty charging port. You can buy a universal battery charger and charge battery separately or you can use same USB cable, cut the one going to the phone port, strip the cables, remove the tin foil protection, the red colored wire goes to positive of battery and the aluminum strands/ silver colored goes to negative terminal. Use a small strip of Scotch tapes to attach each wires separately to positive and negative terminal s, don't let them touch. Then insert battery back into phone. The positive and negative prongs will push each wires tightly to the battery terminal. Plug the charger to the wall. Let it charge overnight. Once completely charged, remove battery again, remove wires, insert battery again and turn cellphone on. My phone worked. But I will definitely stay away from blu phones from now on. I bought Huawei mate 2 phone and updated the operating system.

I have the same problem with my BLU Vivo XL after about 8 months. I can get it to charge only after several minutes of jiggling the USB connector to get the right connection. The USB data connection is also broken so that my car does not recognize that the phone is connected so that Android Auto won't work - nor can I transfer files/photos/music between phone and PC.

I had a similar USB issue with a JBL Flip 3 speaker where it could not be charged. JBL sent me a replacement speaker free of charge without even waiting for me to return the defective unit.

BLU should just own up to this issue and replace these phones!

If your phone is no longer under warranty, you can get a universal charger phone charger from eBay, cost me $1.50. It's colored black and has two adjustable prongs for battery terminal charging.

It worked for me, every time I need to charge the battery, I remove it and charge it. It does not take long to charge.

I bought a couple of these phones and I know exactly what the problem is. They are very powerful phones with huge batteries and the chargers that come with them suck. Each of the two phones I purchased experienced failed charging within the first few days and a soon as I figured out the chargers that come with it cannot handle the battery capacity

I went to the phone store and purchased a 20$top of the line charger and problem solved . Once it gets going it's an awesome phone and worth getting a different charger from!!!
