Sea Water Damaged iPhone 6

I was in the sea with my phone in my pocket for about 40 seconds. The phone was off when I noticed it 30 minutes later. I got as much water as I could out of there. Then I put in in rice for several hours. I try to turn it on and plugging it in after that (Yeah, it's the worst thing to do probably). I opened it up and tried plugging it in again. I think I heard the connectors for display getting fried. I felt it getting really hot. So I disconnected the battery and let it sit in rice for a night. In the morning, I connected the battery to the logic board again and the noise I heard last night wasn't there and it didn't get hot. However, the A8 chip was getting a little bit warm (at least that means he battery still works, right?). I tried to turn it back on again, but still, nothing showed up on the screen.

What should I do now? Rub alcohol onto the display connectors? And would it be a problem of the screen?

Update (09/06/2015)

I unplugged it when the area where the connectors for display are were sizzling. Then I plugged the battery back on, it wasn't sizzling anymore. But when I tried to turn it on, still didn't work.

Rice does nothing! You've wasted valuable time that you had to maybe get the phone working again by shoving it in rice.

You should of cleaned the logic board with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol, and a toothbrush, and then put it in a tub of isypropyl alcohol, this is the most basic of water damage cleaning.

To truly clean it up, you would need an ultrasonic cleaner, and you would need to desolder the logic board shields, otherwise you're not cleaning all the board.

So I cleaned all the parts and put it back together. But every time I put the battery on, the display connectors part sizzles and gets really hot. Do I need to replace the logic board?..

Jiayuan Wang, skip the rice. Using rice is about the same as doing nothing, it does not do anything. The very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart/sync the phone. This may further damage your phone. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using these guides. You must remove all the EMI shields of the logic board. If you do not remove those you are not cleaning 3/4 of the board. Clean everything with +90% (no less than 90%) isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for a 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Pay particular attention to the SMD components, check for charred missing or broken missing. You can then dry the board in an oven or equivalent at 220deg F (not higher;-) for a few hours. Best way to clean it would of course be through an ultrasonic cleaner. Consider professional help with that When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate. Hope this helps, good luck

So I cleaned all the parts and put it back together. As soon as I connect the battery, it just starts that getting fried sound from the display connectors again.

Take a close look at the connector and the components around it. Sounds like something is shortening out. Post some images with your question so we can see what you see:-)

You have to do a full water damage treatment. When its sea water it was wrong of you to leave it in rice for the night because you gave it time to corroed. The reason the phone was getting hot is because the water caused a shortage on the board why you may ask ? because water is a conductive material. You have to understand that sea water contains a lot of substances that may cause corrosion rapidly even tho you just dropped your phone for 30 sec. Anyways after you do a full water damage treatment and after let it dry for around 3-5 hours. Then i would suggest you purchase a new battery and hopefully it will work again. Other than that your phone may just be dead already. Hope this help :)

Could data be recovered from a phone that is dead like in this scenario?

@bhagatfa only if you can get the phone/board to power up for a time long enough to gain access. I recommend you find a good microsolder specialist to try to help you with that. @refectio @arbaman would be an option but they will require more information from you
