@ken38928 does your van turn your cigarette lighter plug off when you turn your van off? Why not just find an "always on" connection for the charger? It will be tougher on the battery for the iPod Touch but probably easier than to convert your iPod Classic. Also, let us know what version iPod Touch you have. There might be some ways in settings etc that could help as well.

There might be some ways in settings etc that could help as well. Something like the auto-Sleep function under the General tab in Settings? Battery drain will be minimal when it is "asleep" and it should definitely still have power in the morning.
