@mira42b something like this "and just never charges. and SOMETIMES, the batteryreport reads a lower capacity than it actually " can be an issue with the battery control board. It can also be an issue with the battery connections on your motherboard. MAke sure that those are all clean, no corrosion and/ or bend , broken pins etc.

IF all of that looks good, I would stat off with a new battery. IF that si a no go, you will need to try and identify the motherboard and check for schematics and boardview to trace the charging circuit.
