Iphone 4/4s has two mics, one at the bottom and one at the top... the mic at the bottom is defected... the one at the top is responsible for sound intake for apps and the mic at the bottom is responsible for sound intake for calls... the mic at the bottom is located on the charger port/dock connector part and would require you replace the whole thing unfortunately but it doesnt require total dismantle of the phone which is a total relief...
