Jonathan Cain, possibly that it is fixable;-) the very first thing that comes to my mind is that corroion has set in, or that you have short circuit n your board. All of this will be hypothetical until you open up your iPad, clean it properly (including all connectors and ribbon cables. Check for any missing or charred looking components. You did not tell us why "I had it stop around an hour later" this needed to be stopped.
