Hello there! My name is Joshua Johnson and I am a second-year student at York University studying Information Technology.

Why I Chose IT

The reason I chose IT as my major I am very interested in programming and I have started programming since I was about 12 years old. I started with basic block coding like scratch but eventually learned the basics of Python, Java, and also some C from Arduino. I feel that IT is a great way to express my interest in coding and apply to real world systems such as databases.

Projects / Repairs

I have repaired and built many systems one of them being a PC.

This was my first time building a PC, however I was confident on what I was doing because I have done extensive research and watched many in depth videos which really helped me. The Parts that I chose for this PC was the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB of 3200 Mhz RAM, 1TB NVME SSD, Nidea RTX 3060, and a 750 Watt Power Supply. I really enjoyed this process and I am extremely happy with the performance and look of the PC.

I Have also repaired a PS4. I noticed that my PS4 was overheating as it kept shutting off after 1 minute and showing a red light. After some diagnosing, I noticed that the fan was not spinning so I bought a replacement fan and also replaced the thermal paste, and the PS4 started working again and was much quieter than before.

I have also repaired a Nintendo DSI XL. This System was a little challenging to find out what the reason was for not turning on, however after purchasing a multimeter and checking for continuity, I released that there was a broken fuse in the system. I ordered a replacement and did the repair and the DS started working again.

One of my favourite projects was building a motion and sunlight activated light. This device is supposed to light up when there it is dark and there is an object in front of the ultrasonic sensors. The Light will then illuminate for about 30 seconds and turn off if there is no longer an object in front of it. The project was made using elegoo (like Arduino).
