I found some space in between the pump and the board that supplies power to the fans. I drilled a hole (1/4" IIRC) and fed the control dial out of the back. Cut the fan power cord in two, strip the wires, and put half in one side of the PWM (read the back of the board for where exactly) and you should be good to go!
The Coolerguys' fans are installed but they are a little louder than the originals. I'm going to see if we can live with them as I'm tired of searching.
I haven't gotten a reply from TeiFans about my order so I did some more searching. I found these from Cooler Guys and I ordered 2 of them. Coolerguys 50x50x15mm 24V DC Medium Speed 2Pin Axial Fan CG5015M24B.
No you need the yellow wire. It travels between the two fans. You can think of it as being a wild card that matches the missing color. I.e on the fan that has red and yellow, the yellow acts as a black. On the fan that has black and yellow, the yellow acts as a red.
What’s happening is the yellow is an “out” from one fan and it becomes an “in” on the other.
I’m currently trying to find a good replacement for this fan. The label reads 7ianxuan TD5015 - DC 24V 0.03A, and it’s 50x50x15 mm. I believe this is the same fan: http://www.teifans.com/pdf/TD5015%20Form...
From that list the TD5015-L-24 seems the most correct. Buying from this website is a bit of a hassle as you have to call or email but I’m going to give them a shot.
I tried a similar fan from Amazon but it was quite loud. It seems to be running at full speed and I doubt that is needed to cool off the heat sync. I suspect buying a fan with a lower high speed will reduce the noise.
If anyone knows how to make a dumb fan spin slower that would be helpful.
