Ok. I think I can help. I have spent a LOT of time trying to put the connector back on and discovered something. The area that makes up the connection is circular. That’s probably not a surprise to anyone but I found myself making a mistake out of habit. If you try and center the head of the connector on the port it will not work. The connection is offset towards the top of the connector. Once I realized this and adjusted the position of the connector it snapped in on the first try. I hope this helps!
