Background
The Retroid Pocket Flip is a clamshell-style handheld gaming console created by GoRetroid and released in 2023. The Flip stands out with its nostalgic foldable design, inspired by the Nintendo DS, that protects the screen when closed and gives it a compact, classic look while still using modern Android software.
It features a bright 4.7-inch display and runs on an Android-based system that allows players to enjoy retro and Android games from systems up through classic consoles like the NES, SNES, Sega Dreamcast, Sony PlayStation, PSP, and more. The device comes with 128 GB of internal storage so you can save plenty of games and media, and the storage space can be expanded with a microSD card.
At launch, the Retroid Pocket Flip was available in five different color options, including Black, “Sport Red” (Super Nintendo inspired), Indigo (Gamecube-inspired), 16Bit US (SNES-inspired) and Watermelon with a semi-transparent red case, giving players a variety of classic and playful looks to choose from. The “Sport Red” model was a limited edition with a smaller production run (1500 units).
It supports Bluetooth and USB connections for controllers and peripherals, and its 5000 mAh battery typically lasts several hours per charge. The combination of retro style, customizable storage, and Android flexibility helped the Flip gain attention as an affordable and fun entry into the clamshell handheld scene.
