System Error Update Firmware?

This might be one of the worst updating features i have ever used. Not matter what i do. No matter what cable. No matter what version i cannot update my device to get it back to a usable state. Does anyone have any ideas on how i can get this soldering set back to working condition and not in a endless loop of failed updates

Hi @dsad32, sorry you're stuck in this loop. We've seen this error before, what's usually happening is that the station's secondary processor didn't finish its part of the update, even though the console says it succeeded. That's also why switching versions doesn't clear the error.

Give this a try to see if it resolves it:

  1. 1. Put the station into DFU mode. Hold down the knob button, and while keeping it pressed, plug your USB cable into the rear port. The screen will stay blank, which is normal. If that doesn't take, you can also try holding the power button and knob together for 10 seconds and then releasing.
  2. 2. Use a USB-A to USB-C cable if you have one, and make sure it's a data cable, not charge-only. There's a quirk in the firmware that makes updates much more reliable over USB-A.
  3. 3. Head to ifixit.com/fixhub/console in Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Opera. Firefox and Safari won't work with the console.
  4. 4. Connect and update to the latest firmware, 1.5.0. It has fixes for this exact update loop. If it fails partway through, just refresh the console page and run it again one or two more times.

If you run through all of that and it's still booting back into the error, email us at support@ifixit.com and mention this thread. We'll help get this resolved for you.
