Repair and disassembly information for the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G Android smartphone, announced and released in January 2021.

The Craziest WiFi Problem

My S21 is doing something crazy with my work WiFi. It used to work flawlessly. Now, it connects, but says it is not connected to the internet. BUT...it is connected. I can use every app that needs internet access, speedtest says I'm getting great speeds, etc (yes, I did turn off mobile data). I can use DuckDuckGo with no problem.

The only things that don't seem to work are some of the google services. Chrome, which gives me the not safe screen, and Google Play Store just says error. But, more weirdness, I can't do a search in Chrome, but if I type in a website or click a link it will load. It's just when I try to search that it gives me the not safe screen.

In the upper left corner is the wifi symbol with the little question mark. In the upper right corner is the wifi symbol with the exclamation point.

I've tried restart, reset network settings, forgetting the wifi and relogging into it, pretty much every solution I can find. Because it's my work WiFi, I can't restart the router.

I am the only person that is having a problem with this. And it's really annoying as I don't get reliable cell service in my building, so I kind of rely on it.

Anyone else run into something like this? Any suggestions on how to rectify this?

Maybe sign out/in of all google services on my phone? Just not sure what data I might lose.

I don't have this problem with any other wifi network.

Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance for your help

Are you using an ad blocker or VPN? Have you inquired of your IT personnel whether they have altered the security settings on the router perhaps adding the google apps to a block-list or host file?

Hi @lancimusmaximus

Since you didn't mention it, try wiping the cache partition and check if it now works OK.

If still no good, try starting in safe mode, enable WiFi and then check. If it works OK in safe mode it may be that a 3rd party app i.e. one downloaded and installed by you, is the problem. The trick is to find out which one is the culprit.

Tried both. Still same problem in safe mode.

Only thing I can suggest now is to backup the phone to the cloud or a computer, remember the user ID and password for any Google or Samsung account associated with the phone and then perform a factory restore aka factory data reset on the phone.

Once it has been restored and setup again, check if it works OK.

If it does you can then restore the phone from the backup created earlier so that it was like before the restore. Once it has been restored back check if it still works OK

I figured factory restore was the next step. But since there's not really anything else goofy with my phone, it's not really worth that much hassle.

At some point the router will get restarted, or there will be some software update and maybe they'll play nice together again.
