LCD Screen came without front sensor cable?

(edited after first post to change “Front Sensor Assembly” to “Front Sensor Cable”)

I just replaced the display on my iPhone 15 and noticed a bit too late that the replacement part did not come with a front sensor cable on it.

Neither the part description nor the repair guide seem to mention this. Is that expected?

Unlike previous iPhone models, the front sensor assembly on the 15 isn't attached to the display. So when you remove the screen, the front sensors stay in the midframe and should not have come off with the screen. It's unclear why you think the display should have come with the sensors.

Ah, I see what you mean now, Tom. Yes, you're absolutely right; the iFixit official guide does indeed skip that step where you need to transfer the proximity sensor to the new screen. I'll go ahead and let the team know about it; that is clearly an oversight on the part of the guide's author.

If you take a look at the user-created screen created guide, they did actually cover that part of the repair starting about the 4:35 mark.

There's also a guide over at the French site SOSav where Step 10 also details the process of removing the proximity sensor.

I think my use of the word “assembly” threw this off. Looks like the part I’m referring to is only the cable (i.e. “front sensor cable” iPhone 15 Front Sensor Cable)

For further clarification, the preview image for the guide shows the part I’m talking about stuck with adhesive to the back of the removed display with the connector dangling off the side near the top of the display part.

The guide I linked refers to disconnecting this part/cable as it comes off with the display in steps 19-21.

The display part I received did not have that cable adhered to it near the top.

Does that help clarify the question?

@tomr75322 Just to add to my answer, you actually wouldn't want a screen that comes with that assembly, as it's part of the Face ID system and replacing it will permanently disable Face ID.
