NES Tray Staying Down

Have this old Nintendo NES-001 console. The problem appears to be with the cartridge tray. When pressing down, it locks into place, but when pressing down again to release the tray back up, it gets stuck a lot. Never came across this type of issue, usually the issue is the tray wont stay down and that is almost always because the tray is not aligned properly flat onto the NES board. I made sure it is aligned properly, still same issue. I even took the tray out and by itself, the same issue happens with it getting stuck down. I can see the pin inside the white plastic stays in place when pressing down and wont move when pressing down again. Eventually the pin moves and the tray comes up like it is suppose too. Does the tray need to be replaced? I added a video to show what I am referring too...

Hi there!

Yes, probably something inside is broken. How are the springs? When this happens for me, I always replace the tray completely and this will fix the issue.

It is somewhere in the tray when it's alligned correctly with the motherboard.

You can buy those on Ebay, like here: Original OEM Nintendo NES Replacement Spring Cartridge Tray Holder Housing

The springs look just fine. The pin in the plastic also looks fine. No rust, no bends, dont see any issue with the naked eye. So not understanding why it is getting stuck. I tried cleaning with a qtip the inside of the plastic grooves, just in case and it was very clean. I can actually watch the pin inside the plastic move to lock into place, then when I try to press down again, the pin just stays there. Wonder if the plastic is broken inside somewhere? I think you can take the white plastic out, going to try that next. Thanks for the answer!

Hi! Yes, that is maybe the best thing to try now. It is related to the pin somehow in there. Can you let us know how it goes?? Also share some pictures with us when you did found the issue? Thanks!
