A while ago my friends switch stopped charging, so I attempted a charging port replacement. However, I botched the repair and I doubt I will be able to save it. On the device he had an account he had lost the password to and all his save data. Is there any way I can get his data to another switch or an emulator?

Hi!
It could be the USB-C connector or the charge IC on the motherboard which need to be replaced! But both requires serious soldering skills and tools to get it replaced. You can always ask a local repair shop to let them do it for you!
You can transfer the save data to another Switch, yes! OR get the Nintendo Online subscription and store it on the cloud. Then you can retrieve the save data on the new Switch easily!
Unfortunately we cannot reset your friend's password or whatsoever. Password reset can be done by yourself by the "forgot password" option, if this isn't working, then the only way is to contact Nintendo. Nintendo can do it for him. It's possible that they need some proof before they will do it.
Please keep the Switch off (to spare as much as battery as possible) until your friend can access his account again, and then make a complete back up in the Cloud OR transfer to another (new) Switch.
If the Switch won't turn on anymore, you can replace the battery for one which still has juice, so that your friend can transfer the save data.
