How can I replace a damaged lens

I dropped the phone a damaged one of the two lenses. The camera still works well but I’d like to replace the lens. How can I do that?

Easiest way to replace the lens is to replace the back glass. iPhone 15 Back Glass Replacement

You'll find plenty of options to buy it online.

@seppebruyland I'm going to disagree completely with your opinion. Removing the rear glass really isn't that easy compared to just replacing a single camera lens, plus there are sensors on the back panel and you run the risk of getting non-genuine part warnings and/or losing functionality such as wireless charging, etc.

In addition, we're talking about a significant price difference as well; probably at least $50 for a quality replacement part vs. what, a couple of bucks for the camera lens?

@Jerry Wheeler I understand, but I think

that finding a replacement lens of comparable quality might be a challenge. Getting the lens out without damaging the camera will require taking off the back glass anyway. I’m a bit split on this: If it was my own phone I would probably buy some cheap lens and glue it in. But someone elses phone might make me consider a black glass replacement as the end result will look a lot more factory, no glue residue etc.

Finding a sapphire glass replacement is not hard. Two suppliers I use have them in stock and for a good price. Taking the lens off does not require removing the back. Ive repaired lots of lens and have never had to remove the back.

If it's just the lens itself and not the glass surround the camera bump, then it's not hard to do. Get a decent hair dryer or heat gun and a pick of some sort. I use tweezers. Remove the glass pieces, replace the adhesive, then the lens. Normally this process takes about 10 minutes and it's not very expensive. I dont see the parts here on iFixit but, make sure you buy the sapphire glass replacement lens with adhesive.

Thanks Brian. It looks like the metal ring should pick off too but is this not necessary?

door

No, the metal ring shouldnt come up. Here is a link to a YouTube video for a 15 pro max. I wouldnt use the cutter tool he uses but, the concept is the same.
