Does not ask for unlock code

My phone is Carrier lock to Spectrum I have a T-Mobile SIM that I'm trying to use. When I put it in the phone it does not ask for an unlock code it says contact customer service network locked. Is there a way I can get the unlock code prompt to pop up? Or how do I enter my unlock code?
