ATA Password removal please.

Hi need help

My friends College nephew thought it was a great idea to put a password on a hard drive using the BIOS settings and forget the password all together. Any way of removing it? Data can be erased if it can't be helped.

Oh I can't format the hardrive

WD10JPVX 1Terabyte.

You can try to find help from a data recovery agency as they have professional tools such as PC3K, MRT, Atola, etc. that can directly remove the ATA password. If you want to try it yourself, you can use tools like zen. Note that trying it yourself may result in data loss.

Unfortunately, Bitlocker is designed to be a secure encryption system, and it is not possible to unlock a Bitlocker-encrypted drive without the correct recovery key or password. There are a ton of false promises for software online who want to steal your money.

The real answer is bitlocker is a anti brute force encryption system and you are not going to find tools in the wild to remove the password or let you access the data on the drive.

The only hope you have is to obtain the key through your friends nephew.

The drive can absolutely be formatted and used again you just are not going to get access to the data that currently exists.

Formatting Drive

1. Hit Win+R key, then type diskpart and pressĀ Enter.

2. Then input these commands below in turn:

  1. list disk
  2. select disk n, where the n stands for the disk you want to format.
  3. list partition
  4. select partition n, where the n stands for the encrypted hard drive you want to delete.
  5. delete partition override

Finally Type exit to close window. This will wipe all the data on the encrypted hard drive. Then you could create new partition on that drive again.

Thanks for your help in trying to solve this issue, I wish my friend's nephew had put Bitlocker on this drive but unfortunately, that was not the case... I attempted the method you mentioned but unfortunately, it didn't work.

He put an ATA password on the hard drive and I can't format the drive at all. ATA password operates at the hardware level and is designed to restrict access to the drive itself.
