My Epson XP 960 display warned that the printers waste ink pads are at the end of their life cycle and needed to be replaced. I ordered and installed a new a complete ink pad kit but the printer still prompts that the ink pads need to be replaced. The installation was done correctly but the printer is stuck on the warning .

@pauljustyna see if this video will help you out. It may be possible that you need to reset the waste ink counter after having replaced the waste ink pad pads. See if this procedure will resolve this.

Furthermore you need to reset the waste ink tank counter via software, with WIC or another similar software.

Agreeing with the answers above, and adding why the new kit did not clear it.
The XP-960 message is driven by a counter in the printer's memory, not by anything that detects the pads. Epson's own XP-960 status message table says the "nearing the end of its service life" message "will be displayed until the ink pad is replaced". The printer cannot see that you swapped the pads, so the counter still has to be reset. Source: Epson XP-960 Product Status Messages.
A few things that make the reset go smoothly:
Read the counters first. Many Epson utilities can read the waste ink counter values before changing anything. Epson's text talks about "ink pads" (plural); if your utility shows more than one counter, reset every one that is at or near 100%, otherwise the message comes back.
Use a USB cable for the read and the reset. Over Wi-Fi it often fails or is not supported.
Switch the printer off and on afterwards so it loads the new value.
Avoid "free" resetter downloads that come in password-protected archives or ask you to turn off your antivirus; those are a common way to get malware.
Since you have already fitted new pads, you are in the best position: the reset is the only step left.
