I accedently spilled soda on my laptop. Now the screen is black.

So these cans were behind my laptop. And this one that most likely did this spilled obv. And I didn't think much of it until my screen went black. I thought It died so I plugged it up and pressed the power button. Still doesn't work. I start panicking and search this up. I see " scrub your PC around with a toothbrush with < something > alcohol. " I didn't have that alcohol so I used water. I saw it wasn't thewatening to the PC so yea. After scrubbing it still doesn't work. After powering it on it doesn't work. It only showed lights on the side of my laptop. Nothing happened onscreen. Now I'm just thinking about giving up on this PC and getting a new one. But if you know what I can do to fix it. Please let me know.

Hi @tobi00

The impurities in the soda (and water as well) causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the laptop's operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and is ongoing until it is completely cleaned away

First do not try to charge or to turn on your laptop and then remove the battery as soon as possible from the laptop to minimize any further damage.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the laptop and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion and water. If possible do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA the better

Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. Remove the shields that may be covering some components as the water may have got in under there. The ends of any flex cables and their connectors need to be cleaned as well

Hopefully after you have done all this the laptop might possibly work correctly again.

Here is a link to the maintenance and service guide for your model series that will help with this.

NOTE: The manual is for the model series not for your model in particular, so if you need to replace any parts (even though some listed in the guide are relevant), here's a link to the parts for your exact model. Search online using the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

If this process seems too daunting, take your laptop to a reputable, professional laptop repair service, experienced in liquid damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.
