I installed a new battery. Wont Power on.

After a year of inactive use because it relied on plug charging. And needed a new battery. I bought a new battery. Im sure it is the correct one. After i installed it. I tried to turn it on.(pressed and held down for long) nothing happened. I then decided to plug in charger incase it needed to charge. Tried to power on and nothing happens. Battery light is white on the side of the laptop. The power button light is not on, on side of laptop. I don’t know what i did wrong.

Hi,

Try a power refresh and check if this resolves the problem.

It may be that the CMOS/RTC battery is depleted as well as the original battery and the BIOS may have become corrupted, preventing a normal start. This may have happened especially since you removed the old battery and replaced it. At one stage there would have possibly been no power at all in the laptop.

Here’s the procedure:

a. Disconnect the charger from the laptop.

b. Open the laptop and disconnect the main battery from the systemboard.

c. Disconnect the CMOS/RTC battery from the systemboard. (see image taken from the ifixit Lenovo IdeaPad U430 Touch Motherboard Replacement guide where the battery is shown). If you have a DMM (digital multimeter) check the battery voltage. If it is <2.6V DC replace it. The CMOS/RTC battery is a non rechargeable Lithium battery that has a life span of 3-4 years. Replacement batteries are available online. Just search for Lenovo U430 CMOS/RTC battery to get results for suppliers that suit you.

d. Press and hold the laptop’s Power button for 30 seconds and then release. This will restore the BIOS back to its’ default condition.

e. Reconnect the CMOS/RTC battery.

f. Reconnect the main battery

g. Reassemble the laptop, connect the charger and try to turn on the laptop and check what happens. If it starts there may be a message stating that the time and date are incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been reset. Once the date and time have been corrected the message won’t show the next time the laptop is started. If the battery is charging allow it to fully charge before disconnecting the charger.
