Charging port not working?

Hello, I’ve gone through the answers in this site but I didn’t see any relevant cases.

The thing is, I connect the charger and the device won’t turn on, with or without battery. I know for a fact that:

  • The battery is okay, it’s charging in another device.
  • The device turns on if a charged battery is pressed against the pins and works as usual (I’ve tried both the original battery after charging it and another one).
  • The adapter is okay, because it’s charging another device.

This makes me think the problem may lie on the charging port itself, are there any fixes for this? I’ve managed to dismantle the device but I see no apparent damage (Not that I’m an expert of any kind at this anyway).

@melferas there are some fuses on your GBA SP motherboard. The issue you are describing would fit the bill of a blown fuse. Post some really good pictures of your board with your QUESTION. Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag That way we can see what you see and hopefully help you out further. You’ll need a multimeter as well to determine if you have continuity at the fuse etc. Yes a failed connector is possible. check the pins and see if they are bend etc. Also., check with a meter to see if you have continuity from the outside of the connector to the traces.

Update (09/19/2020)

Check both fuses for continuity with a meter. If those check out okay, I’d check the connector as shown at ~6:00 min in this video After that replace the connector and see if that resolves your issues. Schematics are not readily available so it ‘ll be difficult to determining the circuitry for any board level repair.

Done, I was waiting for a bit of natural light so maybe I could get some clear pics. I'll see what can I do about a multimeter... don't think I got one handy.

I've checked with an old multimeter, continuity seems fine from fuses to battery, port to fuses (fuses look alright as well)... and there is continuity between the "yellow square" and the pin indicated in the video.

But the voltage is... just so low. In 2.5V mode I can only get a very light reading and from the pin on the left instead of the right.

Is it then sure to proceed with a port change? Should not be anything else right?

@melferas that is hard to say since schematics are pretty non-existent. At this time I would proceed with changing the charging port, then re-evaluate.

I'll accept this answer as I don't see myself getting a soldering kit just for this, but seems to be the way... may it help someone.

@melferas can't give up on it yet. Maybe somebody out there can do the soldering for you. Just check around amongst your friends, family etc. and see what they can come up with.
