Absolutely no display at all

Hi! I’m absolutely puzzled and I wanted to see if anyone could figure this out…

After ordering a new display for the W541 and installing it and for the moment we all love to see however this time I didn’t like what I saw since it was nothing! Does anyone know why this is happening? When I plug it into an external display it works flawlessly but the internal does not want to work.

Huge thanks!

@activoid double check your work (cable, connectors etc.),and ensure that you have the right replacement panel. If so, I would at least once replace the panel to ensure you did not get a dud product. After that you will have to find a schematic for your motherboard to see if this is a circuitry issue.

Thanks turkey, I checked all my work and it appears to be done correctly. Still no picture on the screen

Do you have a model for your panel number? Have you verified that it is compatible with the old one?

Hi @activoid ,

Is the panel number listed in this link

Place the cursor over "Select commodity" and then scroll down to select LCD panels to find the part numbers.

Once you get it working don’t forget to follow the instructions when replacing a LCD panel as per p.97 of the service manual

Thanks for your response! After checking my work once more, and shining a light onto the display there is still no image with or without the light should I just deem the computer as broken?

Hi @activoid ,

Did you try pressing F7 a few times to check if you can swap between displays or perhaps Win key + P key?

Don't assume that the computer is broken. You still have external screen display working which uses the same GPU and a lot of the components as the internal screen, so a lot of things are still working

It may just be an incorrect or faulty panel or the video cable that connects to the LCD screen is faulty.

Did you check with the parts link that I posted above that you do have a compatible replacement LCD screen for your model laptop, you didn't say?

Did you remove AC power and the battery?

What can happen if one was not to disconnect the battery or the AC adapter (you have to remove the battery to remove a screw, as far as I know anyway) would be that you would blow the backlight fuse. If you shine a flashlight onto the display, do you see the screen image?
