Why does my computer barely work while charging?

My computer is not the touch however the specs are the same, it runs everything really slow while charging, however on battery power it works on a speed that I am comfortable with. It might be a problem with the battery as it does not last very long but it shouldn’t be a problem with the RAM because I upgraded it from a 2gb to an 8gb stick (the computer can run 32gb easily and it had 2 other stick both are 2gb so that makes 12gb) it has an Intel core I3 processor and the gpu is 520 1gb I have 1 terabyte of harddrive space. Please help me, i use this for work/non intensive gaming like Krunker.io

Hi @cg123,

If your laptop is no longer holding a charge for long periods of time or always needs to be plugged into a power source to work, use this Lenovo IdeaPad U530 Touch Does Not Hold Charge problem page for possible causes and solutions.

Try replacing the battery and see if this resolves the problem.

Here’s a link to the service manual for the laptop.

Scroll to p.54 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the battery.

Be aware that there are sections of the motherboard that are essentially “live” even though the laptop is turned off. The Power button is not a power isolating switch. Disconnect the battery from the motherboard as soon as you have access to the battery cable connector, to prevent any electrical problems on the motherboard, due to tools accidentally slipping etc when dis-assembling further to remove the battery. Physical damage to the components is another matter ;-)

On p.91-92, you’ll find all the battery part numbers for the batteries that are available for the various models.

Confirm the battery model number with what is printed on the battery in your laptop and then search online, using the battery part number only in the search box of your browser to get results for suppliers.

Are you using a original charger? I have had aftermarket chargers throttle the speed of the processor on the laptop.

I actually found out that it was an issue with the charger, somehow it managed to slow down my computer. It was just the charger that came with the laptop and whenever it was plugged in it slowed down my computer like crazy. I replaced the charger and now it runs better, thanks!
