Hi,

It appears as though the touchscreen has either a loose connection or is faulty and needs to be replaced. The touchscreen is part of the display assembly so if it is not a loose connection from the assembly on the systemboard, the whole assembly will have to be replaced.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation Screen Replacement guide, which should be of some help to gain access to the display assembly so that the connection on the motherboard can be checked and also if the assembly needs to be replaced.

Replacement display assemblies are available online. Just search for Kindle Paperwhite 1st Gen. display assembly to get results for suppliers.

Here’s a link to just one supplier. It is shown only to give you an idea of the cost of the part. There are other suppliers that may suit you better.

In the meantime, you could try connecting a USB mouse via a compatible OTG cable - (On The Go) to navigate through the tablet. Be aware that the mouse will be powered by the tablet’s battery, so the battery will discharge faster than usual.
