Phone shuts down when taking selfie with flash

So I have a customer come in asking if I have heard about this issue before.

she has changed screen from a competitor and when she takes a selfie using the flash the phone turns off and you have to hold lock + homebutton to get it to turn on again, has anyone heard of this problem and is it a bad screen or is something else broken?

I have the same problem. It started awhile ago but I didn't do anything about it. It has gotten a lot worse. At this point sometimes doesn't turn on for a few days.

so i was on snapchat and i tried taking a picture with the front flash and it just completely shuts off my phone. back works perfectly fine but the front just doesn’t work. it will work very rarely. anyone know what’s wrong with this?

I was on snapchat and took a front facing flash photo and my phone flickered and turned off. My phone wont even reconize the charger anymore, We took it to a repair store and we got a battery and screen replacment. The phone still would not turn on. I have jailbroken my phone but is was working fine. I also did have water damage like 1 month prior but we already got that fixed. If anyone knows a solution that would be great.

It's the battery. When it can't provide the high amount of power output from flash the phone will auto reboot itself.

You may see that while plugged into charger or near fully charged it does not occur.

You'll need to get the battery replaced to fix this problem.

So I had this problem tonight I tried taking a picture on Snapchat with my front camera and flash and it shut off and my phone as I am writing this is at 88% and this happened no less than about 5 minutes ago and also my back camera doesn’t work at all and there is a diss connected wire in my phone. Is any of this related? iPhone SE

Sometimes the rear camera can get disconnected from a prior repair.

This occurs because the metal cover may not have been put back on to keep the connectors in place for the screen and cameras. So after a few drops the rear camera might disconnect itself usually reseating the camera fixes the problem.

For the shut down problem that is most likely going to be the battery you may see this may not happen while plugged into a charger.

I would try another screen as some repair centres buy fully assembled screens and just swap home button I.D.

It might be a defect cheap part on the screen instead of them swapping the genuine parts over to the new screen

Thats what I though too, she was going to find the receipt and complain to them.. but she will be back to me in a couple of weeks for a battery repair

I'd try that first and see if it resolves the problem if not there will be other options to try.

either or all:

  1. check the battery - settings app -> battery — under battery health -> Peak performance capability - it should say that battery is supporting normal peak performance. If not — a battery needs replacement.
  2. some short inside or water damage and thus corrosion or some in-between so that if power usage exceeds the base levels - the battery does not cope and / or short occures and the system shuts down.
  3. loose connector

The phone may need to be opened to evaluate 2. and 3.
