Nvidia Video Card Replacement

Is there a video available that shows how to remove and replace an Nvidia QUADRO 1000M video card in a Lenovo W520 work station??? I believe mine has gone bad. I get screen blinking on and off going black and sometimes blue screen of death and reboot.

Thanks Trent

Hi @cyberscenes ,

Here is a link to the service manual for your laptop.

As there is no mention of a separate video card the conclusion is that it is mounted on the motherboard and cannot be easily replaced.

Have you tried starting the laptop in "safe mode" to see if the problem occurs?

Have you tried connecting an external monitor to verify the display is OK?

Have you tried updating the graphics adapter drivers (relevant to your OS) to see if this resolves the problem?

The problem is not constant it comes and goes. I've have a second monitor plugged in to see if it affects both monitors when it happens or just the laptop monitor. Hopefully I will be able to draw a conclusion if it is the video or the display when it happens. If it turns out there is no separate video card and the video is on the mother board then I think its time for a new laptop. Thank you for your suggestions. The video driver is up to date.

I am having the same problem it started in the begging of October/2017;

I am suspecting of some issue that is causing TDRdelay expire . Please check Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR).

I set it to 60 seconds (Decimal).

For more details you can find in Microsoft and in the site drivethelife.

The ifixit robot is not working properly, and blocked my post when I past the link of Microsoft and DrivetheLife.

Search for How to Fix the "Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered" Error on Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP . Use the Increase the GPU Processing Time - Method 2. Windows 7: Help me configure registry correctly to solve TDR issue

Backup Registry

For windows the TDRdelay is DWORD, for 64 bits QWORD.

I was not receiving the message that the "Display Drive has Stopped Responding" Just lots of screen blinking and a occasional blue screen of death and reboot. However, I decided to try your solution here is what I found looking for how to set TDR in Win7 64bit off. I'll let you know if this works. Thanks for your help.

For win 7 64 TDR

command prompt - regedit

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - HARDWARE -DEVICEMAP -VIDEO

find the file type REG_DWORD,

double click, type in new value, 0 turns off TDR my value was 8.
