How to replace the keyboard?

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop, and for some reason, the keyboard decides not to work anymore. Other times it works fine. I read about removing the battery, and reinstalling, and it worked a couple of times, but now, it just refuses to work, even if I shut the laptop and reboot. When I turn it on now the next day, it still won't work. So I'm thinking the keyboard is fried for some reason. Any suggestions on what else could cause this ? If I decide to replace the keyboard, how do I go about it ?

Thanks.

Hi,

Connect an external USB keyboard to the laptop and see how it performs.

If it is OK and it is determined that there is a problem with the laptop's keyboard it is preferable to replace it rather than trying to fix. You can cause more problems than what you had before when trying to fix it.

Here is a link to the service manual for your laptop.

http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01689926.p...

Scroll to p.57 onward to view the necessary pre-requisites and then the procedure to remove the Switch Cover and the Keyboard.

Also on this page is the part number for the various types of keyboards available for this model. Take heed of the Note on this page. To find suppliers of the part, search online using just the part number only to find suppliers of the part.

As an example of what I mean here is how to find suppliers of a white keyboard for the USA

Ray Seguin download the service manual for your computer from here. Page 57 will tell you how to remove the keyboard. There are multiple reason for why it may have failed. Could be a component failure anywhere in the keyboard circuitry for as long as it is not related to the motherboard, it won't really matter.
