Why doesn't my new battery work?

I went through the instructions. Getting the case off was difficult. De-soldering and re-soldering the battery went smoothly.

After re-assembly, I put the iPhone 1st gen into a dock to charge. It simply flashes the start screen (apple on black background) -- about 5 seconds on and 2 seconds off.

Perhaps the soldering wasn't perfect? Perhaps there's some other physical problem?

I have the same problem. I checked the new battery voltage and it is only .245Mv, therefore, I think it's a bad replacement battery. The old battery shows 3.79V. So, I think I will try putting the old battery back into the phone and check again.
