Tried everything but still no confirmation beep when cycling ignition key from I or II or III to 0:

Central locking works fine using key in lock and by operating indoor switches.

Fuse 63 and others all ok.

Unplugged cables to GEM box for more than one hour.

Unplugged battery for 30 mins.

Still no confirmation beep when trying to program key fob and key fob will not operate doors. Battery is new in key fob.

I have the same issue:

I am having the same problem with my 2002 TDCi in that it won't enter learning mode which means I can't program a key fob to operate central locking.

However the immobiliser seems to work fine with the right number of flashes from the LED.

It's driving me nuts as the keys are now worn out from using them manually so I'd like to get the key fob to operate the central locking.

Usual suspects seem ok:

- Fuses good

- Battery replaced

Just no 'bong' to indicate learning mode/programming mode was entered.

The 'bong' does operate with the lights on/ignition key removed/door open.

If someone has a solution, I would love to hear it :-)

I have the same problem I unhooked the car battery for one hour and now it works great

I sat for ages figuring this out... For my fob with doors closed and both front seatbelts plugged in I have to turn the key two clicks to position II four times in six seconds and then turn it to position O. What it didn't tell me was that I had to start at position O, turn the key to position II then back to position O... four times in six seconds, so you end on position O as it says in the handbook... Then you get your ding dong beep noise and press a button on all keyfobs to program.

My 2009 ford focus was easy. Key in the ignition and turn it from 0 to 3 but without starting the engine 3 times quickly. It will then beep. Then u can press lock on your fob and both keys will work.

Moving key 3 or more times from 0 to 2 position in ignition lock helped - then somewhere in position 1 I heard the BEEP and pressed unlock and lock ... This worked .. thanks

It's in the owners manual.

Turn key from 0 to 2 four times in quick succession. You will hear a beep. Press any button on fob. And hey presto (doesn't actually say hey presto, but it should)

turn key from 0 to ignition 4 times in quick succession, hear a beep, hold any button on the remote for 5 seconds  and your should hear another beep, that's the key programmed, if you have more than one remote press the next remote in quick succession after the first one, they hold up to 4 remotes on memory. If after turning the key you don't hear a beep then the key needs to be programmed with the ecu via cables and extra equipment.  failing this disconnect battery for half and hour and repeat, failing this try the link jayeff posted. the key also has a part inside the remote which wears out over time in which case you need to replace the key.

Hi my key randomly stopped working today, replaced the battery as I presumed it was flat, still wouldn’t work.. guy at my local garage said it might need re programming so Iv got it booked in for Monday £20 (mates rates) however I forgot I need to get into the boot before Monday .. anyway googled how to get into my boot without double pressing my key fob and stumbled across your post about turning the key four times from 0-2 and then waiting for the beep and then pressing my key down for 5 seconds and IT WORKED ! So thankyou for saving me £20 and making me feel less useless about mechanics
