Why has my display gone dark?

I have a Bose Wave Radio that is about 15 years old. It is just the radio w/o the CD player. My screen has gone dark. I don't know if the screen itself is bad or just the back lighting.

I know this question is several years old, but I had the same problem for many years and recently found this online —IT WORKED!! My display is now visible at all times. Hope this fix works for others.

Screen is Too Dim ¶

You cannot read the display because it is too dim.

The Display is Not Brightened All the Way

You can brighten the display by holding down the CLOCK SET button and pressing the ‘volume up’ button. Otherwise, the display depends on how much light is in the room, so it automatically adjusts depending on the brightness in the surrounding area.

YA-FRIGGING-HOO! It worked! On A Bose with a CD player, push the CD Mode and hold Volume to increase or decrease the light. Thank you very much for posting this.

Thanks very much. I would never have been able to solve the light issue on my wave radio without your help.

Hi John,

This link shows the refurbishment of a Bose AWR1-1W. It describes the replacement of the electrolytic capacitors in the radio. Of special interest to you may be the ones mentioned which are connected with the display board.

This next link I'm not so sure about. It is the circuit diagrams for a Bose Wave Radio 1996. Whether it is relevant to your model I don't know but perhaps it may be close and therefore give you some idea where to look, especially around the display area. Usually manufacturer's tend to keep the circuit reasonably the same for a model over a number of years. This image is taken from the circuit diagram found in the link above. It may assist you in finding your problem. As explained, I do not know if it is the correct circuit

Don't know if it is helpful or not but you never know.
