My ADF is not picking up the paper.

I have an Epson WF-2540 printer with an ADF. I have recently been experiencing problems with the ADF since it is not picking up the documents on the feeder. A message appears on the screen telling me to place the document on the glass scanning top. I purchased this in the first place because I work for a Solicitor and I often have to photo copy lots of legal documents. Photocopying documents singly takes too much time. Can anyone help me. I have contacted Epson but they told me to take it to an Express Epson centre and the nearest one to me is in Bethnal Green London E2 which is too far away for me to travel. I would appreciate any help that anyone can give. I would add that I have checked the device to see if there is any jammed paper but it is free and I cannot see why it is not picking up.

I have an Epson M205 printer Just purchased. Even after spending 6 hours on Manual and internet I am unable to short out this problem.

When I put 5 legal size pages to copy in ADF it says “remove document from ADF and place it on Glass’. Why do i place documents on glass when these are lagal size documents ?

No any helpful idea on this thread.

The company engineers also silent on this problem.

Epson WF-2760 - Same problem. They need to do better. Had another one before and it did the same thing.

Try scanning multiple pages with the ADF(Automatic Document Feeder) when it is connected to a USB drive (USB drive port is in the bottom left corner of the front of the Epson WF-2540), scanning with the ADF doesn’t seem to work when connected to my laptop

I had this prob with WF 2750. There were also other things like it got confused about which paper I always use etc etc. I seem to have cured it. I returned it to default settings (Don't ask me how, I can't remember!) And all is fine. These Epsons are not user friendly and not logical. I'm not stupid, Epson should remember we're not all tech nerds, and have better things to do than waste time trying to solve their problems!

Hi,

The following is taken from the User guide and I assume that this pertains to the message you are receiving.

Note: Depending on the copy settings you select when copying originals placed in the ADF, your product may instruct you to copy using the scanner glass instead

These are the specifications for the ADF

Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Specifications

Paper input Faceup loading

Paper output Facedown ejection

Paper size US letter, legal, or A4 size

Paper type Plain paper

Paper weight 17 lb (64 g/m2 ) to 24 lb (95 g/m2 )

Sheet feeding capacity Total thickness: 0.12 inch (3 mm)

Approximately 30 sheets (US letter or A4) or 10 sheets (legal)

1. Are the documents that you are trying to copy within the parameters of the ADF especially with regard to weight 64-95gsm and size US, legal, A4 maximum?

It may be that if they are not that the ADF cannot handle them and that is why you are getting the message to use the glass scanner instead

2. Are you loading too many sheets into the feeder (more than 3mm thick)?

3. Have you set the correct paper type, size and copying options. It may be that in those settings there is a parameter that the ADF cannot handle.

My Epson Workforce 610 is doing the same thing. It won't pull through the ADF or the manual feeder period. So it's nothing that is being done incorrectly. I think these Epson printer fail at some point.

I have 2 Epson E-4750 printers and the document feeders on both have stopped feeding just after the Warranty ran out. Is there some pattern here e.g. built in obsolescence???

My ET-3750 ADF will feed about 1 1/2 sheets then stop. Does anyone know of an exploded view or repair guide for the feeder? In the 3750 it sits on top of the scanner glass and has a flip-up lid for feeding paper. I need to get at why the feed stops/jams at the same 1 1/2 pages. Pretty sure its a mechanical problem.

I have a Epson WF- 2660 with the very same problem. I solved this by changing the following setting in the Scan Area setting from “Auto Cropping” to “Max Area

I have a WF-3520 that stopped sensing paper in the ADF.

Open the top cover of the ADF.

Near the top edge of the ADF there are some holes in the base plate where a plastic tab (that is in the cover) fits. This has a sensor that can collect dust.

Clear the sensor by blowing or using a cotton tip - you will hear a beep when it has been cleared.

I have the ET-4760 and encountered the same, jam but really a won't feed issue. I used a can of compressed air and sprayed the area under the ADF cover really well. Presto. I worked!

If you’re just scanning, in your desktop or laptop go to EPSON Scan Settings, and choose Office Mode because it won’t work if it’s in the Home Mode. And if you’re trying to photocopy, go the Copy settings in the printer itself and choose the QUALITY, set it to Standard or Best because it won’t work if it’s in Draft. Hope it will help.

The ADF will not work if photo paper versus plain paper is chosen.

This was my problem I think. Mine was set for plain paper, but I set it to something else and then right back to plain paper, it started feeding from the ADF as expected. Thanks for the idea.

The only solution is to restore to factory settings except fax and network. Worked perfectly.

Tried to fix for hours, thanks huge! Be aware you can choose to reset the settings for Scan only and not the entire printer/scanner - that's what worked for me.

To add to Rick Joe's post & confirm Terry Coker's comment, it seems it works only with "plain paper" setting. Any other paper type choice, no go.

Yet ADF worked for scanning whatever paper type was set.

In addition on my ET-3750, re copying, the ADF indicator icon always came on when you inserted a page (or pages) in the ADF, regardless of the paper setting, so that made it weirder than it was. Seems like the alert message would more usefully advise of this, instead of "use scanner glass".
