Replaced display assembly not working

I just replaced the cracked display assembly of my MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2014. After turning on the MBP the screen stays black. I have checked all motherboard connections as well as the brightness and performed a SMC reset.

I then put the display assembly on another MBP to confirm the screen is working and it is on that MBP. So I know the display assembly is 100% ok.

To confirm there is no problem with the MBP itself I put back the cracked display assembly and it is working (although cracked).

So it seems I have a working MBP and a working display assembly. However when they are combined the screen stays black.

What am I missing here? Does anyone have a suggestion or idea?

I suspect the backlight fuse link is burnt. To verify put the new display back on your system and then shine a flashlight through the Apple logo (a poor mans backlight). You should be able to see a faint image of the desktop. The other way is to plug in an external monitor.

Update (10/26/2015)

Not good :-{ that implies the display is the wrong unit for your system. What is the part number you used?

It does work with the cracked display, although of course the image is distorted. The backlight is working and also the apple logo on the top side of the casing is lit.

When I put on the new screen it doesn't work; there's no picture, no backlight and the apple logo isn't lit. If I put this same screen on another MBP that screen is working.

It also works when connecting an external monitor.

@Dan, totally agree with you on this one. Since the broken display is working, backlight and all, would you revise your answer to reflect these new findings? might help the next person coming along.

Michael, please give us the last four figures of the serial numbers on both machines to confirm both machines will run that display. It's a difficult problem that we all want to see solved.

The last 4 digits of the machine that isn't working with the replacement screen is G8WP.

The last 4 digits of the machine that is working with the replacement screen is DKQ1.

I can't find the part number of the replacement screen. The connections are the exact same and this is the one I ordered: http://www.fixyourmac.nl/nl/apple-macboo...

I just did the flashlight shining through the Apple logo trick as suggested by Dan. I could see the desktop, so there's something wrong with the backlight.

The thing I don't understand is why the backlight of the original cracked screen is working and the replacement isn't. So you could assume there's something wrong with the replacement screen, but why does that same screen work when connecting to another MBP?

It seems there are 3 A1398 Display assembly units. I ordered the wrong one (2013/2014 unit for a mid 2015 MB).
